220mm wide planks help create a more open, spacious floor layout

Engineered construction improves stability with temperature changes
Tongue and groove system for secure glue-together installation
15mm total thickness with 4mm solid oak wear layer for long-term durability
Mixed length boards help create a more natural floor pattern
The Calder Engineered Coffee Distressed Oak Oiled is a 15mm engineered oak floor with a 4mm wear layer, designed for homes that want a darker wood floor with extra texture and character. The deep coffee tones add warmth and depth to the room, while the distressed surface gives the boards a more aged and lived-in appearance from the moment they’re installed. The engineered core also helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making it suitable for water-based underfloor heating.
Each board is 220mm wide, which is noticeably wider than standard planks. This reduces the number of joins across the floor and helps create a cleaner, more spacious appearance once fitted. The wider boards work particularly well in open-plan rooms and larger spaces where you want the flooring to feel more continuous.
The surface is distressed and oiled. The distressing adds texture and subtle variation across the boards, helping create a softer and more traditional appearance. The oiled finish enhances the darker coffee tones and natural grain without creating a thick surface coating, helping the floor retain a more natural feel underfoot.
This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and tonal differences between boards. These natural details work particularly well with the distressed finish, adding depth and preventing the floor from looking overly uniform once installed.
Boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps create a more natural layout across the floor and avoids repeated patterns once fitted.
The 4mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to three times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for at least 10 to 15 years, but it gives the floor good long-term flexibility. Combined with the 15mm thickness and engineered multi-ply construction, it provides a stable and durable structure for everyday use.
Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. When installing over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.
Because this is an oiled wood floor, the surface is not fully sealed. Spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent marking, and it’s not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water. Darker floors can show dust and pet hair slightly more easily than lighter finishes, so regular cleaning will help maintain the overall appearance.
When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.
We like the Calder Coffee Distressed Oak Oiled because the darker tones and textured finish give the floor a more established, characterful feel straight away. It works particularly well in rooms where you want warmth without losing the natural detail of real wood.
Richard, our Product Expert, recommends the Calder because:
Pet Friendly: Distressed texture helps disguise light scratches and marks
Family Friendly: Mixed grade oak blends in everyday wear and dents
Spill Resistant (with care): Oiled finish offers protection, but spills should be wiped promptly
Rich Colouring: Coffee oak tones add warmth and depth to the room
