The Calder Engineered Natural Unfinished Oak flooring is designed for homeowners wanting complete flexibility over the final appearance of their wood floor. Supplied unfinished, the boards can be stained, lacquered, or oiled after installation, allowing you to tailor the colour, sheen, and finish to suit your interior style perfectly.

Each board measures 180mm wide, offering a slightly wider plank format that helps create a more open and spacious feel throughout the room. The wider boards reduce the number of visible joins across the floor, helping achieve a cleaner and more seamless appearance once installed.

Because the flooring is supplied unfinished, the natural grain detail and tonal variation of the oak remain highly visible before sealing. This gives you the freedom to create anything from a light natural finish through to darker stained or matt lacquered looks depending on your preferred style.

This is mixed grade oak, meaning natural knots, grain movement, and tonal variation are all part of the floor’s appearance. These natural characteristics help create a more authentic and characterful finish rather than a completely uniform look.

The flooring is built using an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to provide greater stability than solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by changes in humidity and temperature, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas exposed to standing moisture should still be avoided.

With a 15mm overall thickness and a 4mm solid oak wear layer, the floor offers a durable and reassuring feel underfoot while also providing excellent long-term lifespan. The wear layer allows the surface to be sanded and refinished up to three times during its life. In most domestic settings, refinishing is unlikely to be required for many years, but it still offers valuable long-term flexibility.

Installation uses a tongue and groove fitting system, with boards designed to be glued together and typically installed as a floating floor. A 3mm underlay is generally fitted beneath the flooring to help improve sound insulation, heat retention, and protection against minor subfloor moisture. For installations over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.

As this flooring is supplied unfinished, the surface must be sanded and sealed after installation to protect the wood against moisture and everyday wear. This also allows complete flexibility when choosing the final appearance of the floor.

Each pack may include starter boards to help create a more natural staggered layout during installation.

When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
