Description
The Caledonian Engineered Arran Oak Brushed and Oiled Click Lok is designed for homes wanting a wider plank floor with a more natural and textured appearance. The combination of brushing and oiling helps bring out the character within the oak, while the wider board format gives rooms a cleaner and more open overall feel.
Each board measures 190mm wide, making this a wide plank flooring option that works particularly well in larger rooms and open-plan spaces. The wider boards reduce the number of visible joins across the floor, helping the layout feel calmer and more spacious once installed.
The surface is finished with a combination of brushing and oiling. Brushing lightly textures the wood by removing some of the softer grain, helping the natural oak patterns become more visible and tactile underfoot. The oil then enriches the oak’s colouring while maintaining a softer and more natural appearance than a traditional lacquered surface.
This is mixed grade oak, meaning knots, grain variation, and tonal movement are all part of the finished look. Those natural markings help give the floor additional warmth and authenticity, preventing the wider planks from appearing too uniform.
The floor is built using an engineered multi-layer construction, which improves stability compared to solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas with standing moisture should still be avoided.
The 3mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to two times over its lifespan. In most domestic settings, refinishing is unlikely to be necessary for many years, but it does provide useful long-term durability and flexibility.
Installation uses a Click Lok fitting system, allowing the boards to click together for a quicker and more straightforward installation process. The manufacturer recommends using a tapping block and rubber mallet during fitting to ensure all joins are tightly secured. The floor is generally installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, helping improve insulation, reduce sound transfer, and offer some protection from minor subfloor moisture. When fitting over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.
Because this is an oiled floor, the surface is not completely sealed, so spillages should be cleaned promptly to help prevent moisture marking. One advantage of oiled flooring is that smaller worn or scratched areas can often be repaired locally without refinishing the full room.
This is a fixed length product, and each pack may include starter boards to help you stagger the layout for a more natural finish.
When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
