Description
The Caledonian Engineered Harris Oak Brushed and Oiled Click Lok is designed to bring a more natural oak appearance into the home, combining warm timber tones with a textured finish that helps showcase the character of real wood. The brushed and oiled surface gives the flooring a softer and more authentic feel compared to heavily lacquered alternatives, making it particularly well suited to relaxed living spaces and more traditional interiors.
Each board measures 150mm wide, offering a versatile plank size that works comfortably in both compact rooms and larger open-plan spaces. The proportions help the room feel open without creating an overly modern or oversized appearance. The boards are supplied in mixed lengths, helping the finished floor look more varied and natural once installed.
The surface is finished with a combination of brushing and oiling. Brushing lightly textures the oak by removing some of the softer grain, helping the natural patterns and markings stand out more clearly. The oil then enhances the warmth and colour variation within the wood while allowing the grain to remain visible and tactile underfoot.
This is mixed grade oak, meaning natural knots, grain movement, and tonal variation are all part of the finished appearance. These natural features help create a more authentic wood floor look and give the floor additional depth and character throughout the room.
Beneath the oak wear layer is an engineered multi-layer core, designed to provide greater stability than solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by seasonal changes in temperature and humidity, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas with standing moisture should still be avoided.
The 3mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to two times over its lifespan. While refinishing is unlikely to be necessary for many years in most domestic settings, it adds useful long-term durability and flexibility.
Installation uses a Click Lok fitting system, allowing the boards to click together for a faster and more straightforward installation process. For the best results, the boards should still be tapped into place using a tapping block and rubber mallet to ensure all joins are fitted tightly together. The floor is commonly fitted as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, helping improve insulation, reduce sound transfer, and provide some protection against minor subfloor moisture. For water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.
As this is an oiled floor, the surface is not fully sealed, so spillages should be cleaned promptly to avoid moisture marking. One of the advantages of oil, however, is that smaller worn or scratched areas can often be repaired locally without refinishing the entire floor.
When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
