Description
The Caledonian Engineered Lewis Oak Matt Lacquered Click Lok is designed to offer the warmth and character of natural oak while maintaining a more understated and practical finish. The matt lacquer gives the surface a softer appearance than traditional gloss lacquered flooring, helping the natural grain and variation within the oak remain more visible once installed.
Each board measures 150mm wide, creating a versatile plank size that works well across both smaller rooms and larger open-plan spaces. The proportions help strike a balance between a modern and traditional layout, making the floor suitable for a wide range of interior styles. The boards are supplied in mixed lengths, helping the overall floor pattern feel more natural and less repetitive.
The surface is finished with a matt lacquer, which provides a protective layer while avoiding the overly reflective appearance associated with higher gloss finishes. This lower sheen helps preserve the more natural look of the oak while still offering practical day-to-day protection against general household wear.
This is mixed grade oak, so natural knots, grain movement, and tonal variation are all part of the finished appearance. These natural features give the floor more depth and character and help maintain the authentic look of real wood throughout the room.
The floor is built using an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to provide greater stability than solid wood flooring. This helps minimise expansion and contraction caused by changes in humidity and temperature, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas exposed to standing moisture should still be avoided.
The 3mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to two times over its lifespan. While this level of restoration is unlikely to be needed for many years in most homes, it does provide added durability and longevity compared to thinner engineered alternatives.
Installation uses a Click Lok fitting system, allowing the boards to click together for a quicker and more straightforward installation process. To ensure all joins are fitted tightly together, the manufacturer recommends using a tapping block and rubber mallet during fitting. The floor is typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, helping improve insulation, reduce sound transfer, and provide protection against minor subfloor moisture. For water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.
The matt lacquered finish offers a practical balance between a natural appearance and easier maintenance, making it well suited to busy households where a lower sheen finish is preferred.
When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
