The Caledonian Engineered Moray Smoked Oak Brushed and Oiled is a premium engineered wood floor designed to combine rich smoked oak tones with a naturally textured finish. The darker colouring gives the boards added depth and warmth, while the brushed and oiled surface helps preserve the authentic character of real wood rather than creating an overly polished appearance.
Each board measures 190mm wide, creating a wide plank layout that helps rooms feel more open and spacious. The broader boards reduce the number of visible joins across the floor, helping create a cleaner and more seamless appearance that works particularly well in larger living spaces and open-plan interiors.
The surface is finished with a combination of brushing and oiling. Brushing lightly textures the oak by removing some of the softer grain, helping the natural markings and grain patterns become more visible and tactile underfoot. The oil then enriches the smoked colouring within the wood while maintaining a softer and more natural appearance than a lacquered surface.
This is mixed grade oak, meaning knots, tonal shifts, and grain variation are all part of the floor’s overall look. These natural details work especially well with the smoked finish, adding extra depth and helping the flooring feel more characterful and authentic once installed.
The floor is built using an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to provide greater stability than solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by seasonal changes in humidity and temperature, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas exposed to standing moisture should still be avoided.
With a substantial 20mm overall thickness and an impressive 6mm solid oak wear layer, this floor is designed for exceptional long-term durability. The thick wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to five times during its lifespan, making it a particularly strong long-term investment for busy homes.
Installation uses a tongue and groove fitting system, with boards designed to be glued together and typically installed as a floating floor. An underlay is generally fitted beneath the flooring to help improve sound insulation, heat retention, and protection against minor subfloor moisture. For water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.
As this is an oiled floor, the surface is not fully sealed, so spillages should be cleaned promptly to help avoid moisture marking. One of the benefits of oil is that smaller worn or scratched areas can often be repaired locally without refinishing the full floor.
This is a fixed length product, and each pack may include starter boards to help you stagger the layout for a more natural finish.
When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
The Caledonian Moray Smoked Oak Brushed and Oiled has a really premium feel thanks to the combination of wide boards, deep smoked colouring, and the exceptionally thick 6mm wear layer. The brushed texture keeps the floor looking natural and full of character rather than overly formal.
Tahire, our Product Expert, recommends the Caledonian because:
Premium Wear Layer: 6mm oak surface allows multiple refinishes over many years
Rich Smoked Tones: Darker colouring adds warmth and depth to larger spaces
Natural Texture: Brushed finish highlights the oak grain beautifully
Long-Term Durability: Thick construction gives the floor a substantial and hard-wearing feel
