The Caledonian Engineered Nevis Oak Lacquered is a traditional-style engineered wood floor designed to bring the warmth and character of natural oak into the home while offering the practical benefits of a protective lacquered finish. The narrower plank design gives the floor a more classic appearance, making it particularly well suited to period homes and spaces where a more detailed wood floor layout is preferred.

Each board measures 125mm wide, creating a more traditional plank style compared to wider contemporary boards. This narrower format adds extra detail to the overall floor pattern and works especially well in smaller rooms or homes where a timeless oak floor look is wanted. The boards are supplied in mixed lengths, helping the finished floor feel more natural and less repetitive once installed.

The surface is finished with a protective lacquer, which seals the wood and helps improve resistance to everyday wear and household use. The lacquer also makes cleaning and maintenance more straightforward compared to unfinished or oiled flooring, while still allowing the natural grain and variation within the oak to remain visible.

This is mixed grade oak, so natural knots, tonal variation, and grain movement will all be visible throughout the boards. These natural features help create a more authentic appearance and prevent the floor from looking overly uniform once fitted.

The floor uses an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to improve stability compared to solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas exposed to standing water should still be avoided.

With an 18mm overall thickness and a 4mm solid oak wear layer, the floor has a reassuringly solid feel underfoot while also offering excellent long-term durability. The wear layer allows the surface to be sanded and refinished up to three times during its lifespan. In most domestic environments, refinishing is unlikely to be required for many years, but it does provide added longevity.

Installation uses a tongue and groove profile, with boards designed to be glued together and typically fitted as a floating floor. An underlay is usually laid beneath the flooring to help improve insulation, reduce sound transfer, and provide some protection against minor subfloor moisture. For water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.

The lacquered surface offers practical day-to-day protection and is generally easier to maintain than oiled wood flooring, making it a good choice for busier households.

When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
