Description

The Glanwell Engineered Natural Oak Brushed and Lacquered is an 18mm engineered oak floor with a 5mm wear layer, designed for homes that want a natural wood look with a durable, low-maintenance finish. The engineered core helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making it a stable option for everyday use. It’s also suitable for water-based underfloor heating, giving you flexibility across different rooms.

Each board is 150mm wide, creating a balanced layout that works comfortably in both traditional and modern spaces. It gives enough width to open up the room visually, without feeling oversized.

The surface is brushed and lacquered. Brushing lifts the natural grain slightly, adding a subtle texture underfoot so the floor feels closer to real timber. The lacquered finish seals the surface, helping to protect against everyday wear while making cleaning more straightforward.

This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and colour differences between boards. These natural details help the floor feel more authentic once installed, rather than overly uniform.

Boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps create a more natural layout across the floor and avoids a repeated pattern once fitted.

The 5mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to four times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for at least 10 to 15 years, but it does give you more long-term flexibility than thinner wear layers. Combined with the 18mm thickness and engineered construction, it provides a stable and durable structure designed for long-term use.

Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. A 3mm underlay is commonly used, while a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended when installing over water-based underfloor heating, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.

The lacquered finish offers good resistance to everyday spills and wear. Liquids should still be wiped up promptly, and the floor is not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water.

When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.

Why We Love It

We like the Glanwell Natural Oak Brushed and Lacquered because it balances a natural wood feel with a finish that’s easy to maintain. The brushed texture adds character underfoot, while the thicker construction gives it a more solid feel once installed.

Chris, our Product Expert, recommends the Glanwell because:

Pet Friendly: Brushed texture helps soften the look of light scratches

Family Friendly: Mixed grade oak blends in everyday wear and marks

Spill Resistant: Lacquered finish offers better protection against spills

Long Lifespan: 5mm wear layer allows multiple sanding and refinishing cycles
