The Cressington Engineered Golden Oak Brushed and Oiled flooring combines rich golden oak colouring with a textured brushed surface, creating a floor that feels warm, natural, and full of character. The oiled finish helps enhance the grain detail within the oak while maintaining a softer and more authentic appearance than many heavily sealed finishes.

Each board measures 190mm wide, making this a wide plank flooring option that helps create a more open and spacious feel throughout the room. The broader boards reduce the number of visible joins across the floor, helping larger spaces feel cleaner and more seamless once installed.

The surface is finished with a combination of brushing and oiling. Brushing lightly textures the oak by removing some of the softer grain, helping the natural grain patterns and markings become more pronounced. The oil then enhances the natural warmth and depth of the oak while allowing the texture and grain detail to remain highly visible.

This is mixed grade oak, meaning knots, tonal variation, and grain movement are all part of the floor’s appearance. These natural characteristics give the flooring a more authentic and lived-in look, helping the floor feel warm and full of individuality.

The flooring is built using an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to provide greater stability than solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by changes in humidity and temperature, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas exposed to standing moisture should still be avoided.

With a 20mm overall thickness and a 6mm solid oak wear layer, the floor offers a substantial and premium feel underfoot while also providing exceptional long-term durability. The wear layer allows the surface to be sanded and refinished up to five times during its lifespan, giving the floor excellent longevity in busy homes.

Installation uses a tongue and groove fitting system, with boards designed to be glued together and typically installed as a floating floor. An underlay is generally fitted beneath the flooring to help improve sound insulation, heat retention, and provide protection against minor subfloor moisture. For installations over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.

As this is an oiled floor, the surface is not fully sealed, so spillages should be cleaned promptly to help prevent moisture marking. One of the benefits of oil is that smaller worn or scratched areas can often be repaired locally without refinishing the entire floor.

Each pack may include starter boards to help create a more natural staggered layout during installation.

When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.

Why We Love It

The Cressington Golden Oak Brushed and Oiled has a beautifully warm and natural appearance thanks to the rich golden tones and textured brushed surface. The thicker 20mm construction gives the floor a really premium feel underfoot, while the oil finish keeps the oak looking authentic and full of character.

Georgia, our Product Expert, recommends the Cressington because:

Warm Golden Colouring: Adds depth and warmth to the room

Natural Textured Finish: Brushed surface highlights the oak grain beautifully

Premium Construction: 20mm thickness gives a substantial and durable feel

Excellent Longevity: 6mm wear layer offers outstanding refinishing potential

  • Each board has a 6mm layer of wood veneer that enables you to sand down and refinish the surface up to five times.
  • The flooring has been finished with a brush to create a textured feel.
  • Engineered wood flooring like this is very resilient to temperature and humidity changes, making it suitable for most rooms, including conservatories. The only exception is the bathroom.
  • Each board is manufactured with a tongue and groove profile, so each board can simply be glued together.
  • This engineered oak is typically installed as a floating floor with a 5mm underlay on the subfloor, providing protection from dampness and serving as a sound barrier and insulator.
  • This product has a mixed grade, so it will contain some knots, which is typical for natural wood.
  • Please note, an oiled finish isn't impermeable and might not be ideal for spill-prone areas
  • Each pack may contain starter boards to allow you to stagger your layout.
  • Please keep in mind that the industry standard includes 10% for wastage and cut-offs, and 5% for visual grading. Make sure to factor this into your calculations when ordering.
