20mm Engineered Oak Flooring

Among our full range, we have a collection of beautiful 20mm engineered oak flooring choices. Oak is a great choice for any kind of room as it comes in a range of different tones, tints and colours to cater for any taste while maintaining it’s natural wood appearance.

Different finishes can also bring out the different layers of depth and colour in your oak flooring. An oil finish can draw out the richer tones of colour, while also protecting the engineered oak. It increases the longevity and durability of your floor.

20mm Engineered Walnut Flooring

As well as 20mm engineered oak flooring, we also have engineered walnut options in 20mm thickness. Walnut is a darker wood with a deep colour. While oak can be tinted to achieve darker tones, tints can’t achieve the same richness of natural walnut. If you’re looking for a dark, natural wood floor, then walnut engineered wood flooring is the perfect choice.

How to Choose Flooring Thickness

With so many different floor thicknesses to choose between, how do you know which you need in your home?

20mm engineered wood flooring is one of the thicker floors that we have available (second only to 22mm) and can provide a range of benefits. For example, thicker floors provide greater noise reduction. 20mm flooring is a fantastic choice for apartments to protect the people below you from being disturbed by the sound of footsteps or voices.

When choosing your floor thickness, you should also consider the thickness of your current floor. If you’re replacing an existing floor, it’s often a good idea to choose the same thickness. This prevents the extra work of adjusting door heights and skirting boards to accommodate a different thickness of floor.

What are the advantages of different thicknesses?

10mm engineered wood flooring is the thinnest flooring option we have available, at half the thickness of our 20mm floors. 10mm floors are great for homes with underfloor heating. If you choose a 20mm floor, you’ll find that the heat from your heating system can’t effectively penetrate the floor and heat your home. A thinner floor, such as the 10mm, provides a beautiful appearance and is suitable for underfloor heating.

15mm is the maximum thickness that we would recommend for floors with underfloor heating, but a medium thickness floor such as the 15mm combines the advantages of a thinner floor with those of a thicker floor. They provide greater noise reduction that thin floors, as well as increased insulation, while still being appropriate for underfloor heating systems.

20mm engineered wood floors are perfect for noise reduction and insulation. They also have the additional benefit of increased durability. While engineered wood flooring has a massive number of benefits in comparison to solid wood - including moisture resistance, heat resistance and price - many thinner engineered wood floors can’t be sanded and resurfaced to increase their lifespan.

However, 20mm engineered wood flooring has a much thicker top layer of solid wood than other thicknesses. This means it can be resanded and resurfaced multiple times to revive it decades down the line when it begins to look a bit tired and used. It means that 20mm flooring has a much longer lifespan that thinner engineered wood flooring options.
