What is Finished Engineered Wood Flooring?

At Flooring 365, we have both finished and unfinished engineered wood flooring. Unlike unfinished, finished engineered wood describes boards that have been sanded and completed with an oil or lacquer to protect them from foot traffic and daily use. It’s vital that every floor is completed with a quality finish of some variety in order to prepare it for use. Without a finish, a floor would quickly wear, as well as prevent splinter hazards to users!

Finished engineered wood flooring is the best way to get real wood flooring that’s easy and fast to install, requiring minimal effort on your part - particularly if you hire a local flooring fitter to fit your floor for you. Unfinished flooring is perfect for people who want higher levels of customisation and are happy to finish the floor themselves. Finishes

We have an extensive and comprehensive range of different finished engineered wood.

Lacquered

A lacquer finish is similar to a wood varnish; it creates a hard and shiny finish to your real wood floor. Unlike an oil finish, the lacquer sits on top of the wood and doesn’t sink into it. This makes it one of the most durable finishes and it ideal for areas with heavy foot traffic. It’s also perfect if you like to have a shine on your finished engineered wood flooring.

Matt Lacquered Finished Floor

As well as a standard lacquer, we also have matt lacquer finishes available. A matt lacquer is hard and durable like a gloss lacquer, but it has a bit less shine so it ideal if you want a finish for an area with lots of traffic, but aren’t too keen on a lot of shine.

Oiled

Oil is the most similar finish to an old fashioned wax. It typically uses a hardwax oil which protects the floor. Unlike a lacquer finish, oil seeps into the wood itself which makes the finish look more natural than a lacquer. While it needs reapplying more than a lacquer, this is a smaller job that reapplying a lacquer when that’s needed; as the oil seeps into the wood, when the top layer wears away, the floor is still protected. An oiled finish is one of the most natural ways to protect your floor and gives a matt finish.

Brushed

Brushed floors have been treated with a wire brush before an oil or lacquer is added. This creates a more textured appearance. It removes new wood growth, stripping back the wood to reveal the old layers underneath which have a more textured appearance. We have brushed and lacquered flooring, brushed and oiled and brushed and matt lacquered finishes all available.

Distressed

A distressed floor has been treated and finished to emphasise the texture and patterns in the wood. It’s the most natural and rough of all the flooring finishes. The floor looks aged and old, bringing more character into your space. View our distressed floors.

Hand Scraped

Hand scraped finished engineered wood flooring is manually textured to create a slightly wavy pattern in the wood grain. It creates beautiful shapes in the natural appearance of the wood to create completely unique, one of a kind floorboards. Learn more about handscraped flooring.

Rustic Aged

Rustic aged flooring is a stunning way to bring character into your room. The engineered wood flooring is treated to emphasise the patterns in the wood grain. It brings a real touch of nature into your home and creates beautiful floors that look authentic and aged.
