Description

The Fyfield Engineered Natural Oak Click Lok is a 15mm engineered oak floor with a 4mm wear layer, designed for straightforward installation without compromising on durability. It offers the look and feel of real oak, combined with a structure that handles everyday temperature and humidity changes more effectively than solid wood. It’s also suitable for use with water-based underfloor heating, which adds flexibility when planning your space.

Each board is 190mm wide, giving you a wider plank look that reduces visible joins across the floor. This helps create a cleaner, more continuous finish and can make rooms feel less crowded, particularly where narrower boards might look too busy.

The surface is brushed and oiled. Brushing lifts the grain slightly, so you get a subtle texture underfoot that feels closer to natural timber. The oiled finish enhances the oak’s natural tones while keeping the surface looking understated rather than heavily coated.

This is mixed grade oak, so expect natural knots, grain variation, and tonal differences across the boards. These features give the floor a more natural and less uniform appearance once installed. Boards are also supplied in mixed lengths, which helps avoid a repeated layout pattern.

The 4mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to three times. In most homes, this won’t be something you need to consider for at least 10 to 15 years. The 15mm thickness, combined with the engineered core, provides a stable base that reduces movement over time.

Installation is where this floor stands out. The Click Lok system allows boards to be clicked together rather than glued, making the process quicker and more straightforward. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, which helps with insulation and sound reduction. When fitting over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, and the surface temperature should not exceed 27°C. A tapping block and rubber mallet can be used to ensure a tight, secure fit.

Because this is an oiled wood floor, the surface is not fully sealed. Spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent marking, and it’s not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water. The benefit of the oiled finish is that any worn or scratched sections can be repaired locally by sanding and re-oiling, rather than refinishing the entire floor.

When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.

Why We Love It

We like the Fyfield Click Lok Natural Oak because it takes away some of the hassle of installation without changing how the floor looks or performs once it’s down. You still get the same natural oak finish and texture, but with a system that’s quicker to work with.

Chris, our Product Expert, recommends the Fyfield Click Lok because:

Pet Friendly: Natural grain and variation help soften the look of light scratches

Family Friendly: Mixed grade oak blends in everyday wear and small dents

Spill Resistant (with care): Oiled finish offers protection, but spills should be wiped promptly

Quicker Installation: Click Lok system reduces fitting time compared to traditional methods

  • Each board has a 4mm layer of wood veneer that enables you to sand down and refinish the surface up to three times.
  • The flooring has been finished with a brush to create a textured feel.
  • Engineered wood flooring like this is very resilient to temperature and humidity changes, making it suitable for most rooms, including conservatories. The only exception is the bathroom.
  • Due to the stability of our engineered flooring products laying the flooring in rooms heated with water based underfloor heating is not a problem. Our 4mm Compressed Rubber Underlay is suitable for water based underfloor heating.
  • Each board is manufactured with a click system profile, so each board can simply be clicked together. Manufacturer’s recommendation is to tap the planks on the edge with a tapping block and rubber mallet to make sure they are clicked tightly together.
  • This engineered oak is typically installed as a floating floor with a 3mm underlay on the subfloor, providing protection from dampness and serving as a sound barrier and insulator.
  • This product has a mixed grade, so it will contain some knots, which is typical for natural wood.
  • Please note, an oiled finish isn't impermeable and might not be ideal for spill-prone areas
  • Each pack contains boards of mixed lengths, offering a unique and dynamic installation pattern for a beautiful, natural-looking floor.
  • Please keep in mind that the industry standard includes 10% for wastage and cut-offs, and 5% for visual grading. Make sure to factor this into your calculations when ordering.
Customer Questions
What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood is real wood on top, with stable layers beneath.
Do I need to acclimatise my wood flooring before fitting?
Yes, you must acclimatise your wood flooring before installation. For engineered wood, allow 48–72 hours; for solid wood, give it at least 7 days. Keep the packs flat, unopened, and in a room with stable conditions.
Can I install wood flooring over underfloor heating?
Yes, you can install wood flooring over underfloor heating—but it must be a water-based system. Never use electric underfloor heating with wood flooring, as it can overheat and damage the boards.
Do I need expansion gaps when fitting wood flooring?
Yes, always leave an expansion gap of 10–15mm around the perimeter of your wood flooring. This allows the wood to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature and humidity.
Can engineered wood flooring be sanded?
Yes, engineered wood flooring can be sanded, but only if the top wear layer is thick enough—usually at least 3mm. Thinner layers may not allow for sanding without damage.
