Description

The Fyfield Engineered White Oak Brushed and Lacquered flooring combines soft, light oak colouring with a textured brushed surface, creating a bright and inviting floor that works beautifully in both contemporary and traditional interiors. The lighter tones help reflect natural light around the room, making spaces feel more open while still showcasing the authentic character of real oak.

Each board measures 125mm wide, offering a traditional plank format that creates a detailed and timeless floor pattern. This narrower board width works particularly well in period homes, cottages, and classic interiors, although it can also provide an elegant contrast within more modern settings. The boards are supplied in mixed lengths, helping to create a natural and varied layout once installed.

The surface features a combination of brushing and lacquering. Brushing removes some of the softer grain from the oak, creating subtle texture and helping the natural grain patterns become more visible. The lacquered finish then seals the surface, providing additional protection against daily wear while making routine cleaning and maintenance straightforward.

This is mixed grade oak, meaning knots, grain variation, and natural colour differences form part of the floor's appearance. These characteristics add individuality and authenticity, ensuring the floor retains the charm and beauty associated with genuine oak flooring.

The flooring is manufactured using an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to provide improved stability compared to traditional solid wood. This helps minimise movement caused by fluctuations in temperature and humidity, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and other areas exposed to excessive moisture should still be avoided.

With an 18mm overall thickness and a substantial 5mm solid oak wear layer, this flooring offers excellent durability and longevity. The generous wear layer allows the surface to be sanded and refinished up to four times during its lifespan, making it a long-term flooring investment capable of being refreshed whenever required.

Installation uses a tongue and groove fitting system, with boards designed to be glued together and typically installed as a floating floor. An underlay is generally fitted beneath the flooring to improve sound insulation, heat retention, and protection against minor subfloor moisture. For installations over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures maintained below 27°C.

The combination of lighter white oak colouring and subtle surface texture makes this flooring particularly effective at creating bright, airy interiors while still retaining the warmth and character expected from real wood flooring.

When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.

Customer Questions
What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood is real wood on top, with stable layers beneath.
Do I need to acclimatise my wood flooring before fitting?
Yes, you must acclimatise your wood flooring before installation. For engineered wood, allow 48–72 hours; for solid wood, give it at least 7 days. Keep the packs flat, unopened, and in a room with stable conditions.
Can I install wood flooring over underfloor heating?
Yes, you can install wood flooring over underfloor heating—but it must be a water-based system. Never use electric underfloor heating with wood flooring, as it can overheat and damage the boards.
Do I need expansion gaps when fitting wood flooring?
Yes, always leave an expansion gap of 10–15mm around the perimeter of your wood flooring. This allows the wood to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature and humidity.
Can engineered wood flooring be sanded?
Yes, engineered wood flooring can be sanded, but only if the top wear layer is thick enough—usually at least 3mm. Thinner layers may not allow for sanding without damage.
