Description
The Glanwell Engineered Natural Oak Lacquered is a 14mm engineered oak floor with a 3mm wear layer, designed for homes where a more classic plank style suits the space. The narrower boards create a more detailed layout across the floor, which works particularly well in traditional interiors or where you want a bit more pattern underfoot. The engineered build helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, and it can also be used with water-based underfloor heating.
Each board is 125mm wide, which gives a more traditional appearance compared to wider planks. This style creates more lines across the floor, adding subtle detail without feeling overly busy.
The surface is lacquered, forming a sealed protective layer across the wood. This helps guard against everyday wear and makes the floor easier to clean, as dirt and spills sit on the surface rather than soaking in. The finish still allows the natural character of the oak to show through without adding a high-gloss look.
This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and natural colour differences between boards. These details give the floor a more authentic appearance once installed. Boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps avoid a repeated or uniform pattern.
The 3mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to two times. In most homes, this isn’t something you’ll need to think about for at least 10 to 15 years. The 14mm thickness, combined with the engineered core, provides a stable structure that helps limit movement over time.
Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It is typically fitted as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. When installing over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, and the surface temperature should not exceed 27°C.
The lacquered finish offers better resistance to everyday spills than an oiled surface. However, it’s still important to wipe up liquids promptly, and the floor is not suitable for bathrooms or areas where water can sit.
When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.
