Description

The Glanwell Engineered Natural Oak Lacquered is an 18mm engineered oak floor with a 5mm wear layer, designed for homes that prefer a more traditional plank style with a solid, long-lasting build. The engineered core helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making it a reliable choice for everyday living. It’s also suitable for water-based underfloor heating, which adds flexibility across different rooms.

Each board is 125mm wide, giving a narrower plank look that creates more detail across the floor. This style suits traditional interiors well, or spaces where you want a bit more structure rather than wide, open planks.

The surface is lacquered, forming a sealed layer over the wood. This helps protect against everyday wear and makes cleaning easier, as dirt and spills remain on the surface rather than soaking in. The finish keeps the natural look of oak while adding a practical level of protection.

This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and colour differences between boards. These natural features give the floor a more authentic appearance once installed.

Boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps create a more natural layout across the floor and avoids a repeated pattern once fitted.

The 5mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to three times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for at least 10 to 15 years, but it does give you flexibility over the longer term. Combined with the 18mm thickness and engineered construction, it provides a stable and durable structure.

Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. When installing over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.

The lacquered finish provides good resistance to everyday spills and wear. Liquids should still be wiped up promptly, and the floor is not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water.

When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.

Why We Love It

We like the Glanwell Natural Oak Lacquered because it gives you a more traditional floor layout without feeling overly formal. The mixed lengths help break up the pattern naturally, and the lacquered finish keeps things simple day to day.

Richard, our Product Expert, recommends the Glanwell because:

Pet Friendly: Lacquered surface helps resist light scratches

Family Friendly: Mixed grade oak blends in everyday wear

Spill Resistant: Sealed finish offers better protection against spills

Natural Layout: Mixed lengths help avoid a repeated pattern

Customer Questions
What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood is real wood on top, with stable layers beneath.
Do I need to acclimatise my wood flooring before fitting?
Yes, you must acclimatise your wood flooring before installation. For engineered wood, allow 48–72 hours; for solid wood, give it at least 7 days. Keep the packs flat, unopened, and in a room with stable conditions.
Can I install wood flooring over underfloor heating?
Yes, you can install wood flooring over underfloor heating—but it must be a water-based system. Never use electric underfloor heating with wood flooring, as it can overheat and damage the boards.
Do I need expansion gaps when fitting wood flooring?
Yes, always leave an expansion gap of 10–15mm around the perimeter of your wood flooring. This allows the wood to expand and contract naturally with changes in temperature and humidity.
Can engineered wood flooring be sanded?
Yes, engineered wood flooring can be sanded, but only if the top wear layer is thick enough—usually at least 3mm. Thinner layers may not allow for sanding without damage.
