The Henley Engineered Grey Distressed Oak Oiled is a 20mm engineered oak floor with a substantial 6mm wear layer, designed for homes that want a cooler, more contemporary wood look with added texture and character. The grey tones give the floor a softer, modern feel, while the distressed surface creates a more relaxed and lived-in appearance. The engineered core helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, and the floor is suitable for water-based underfloor heating.

Each board is 190mm wide, helping to reduce visible joins across the floor and create a more spacious layout. The wider planks work particularly well in medium and larger rooms where you want the flooring to feel more continuous and less busy.

The surface is distressed and oiled. The distressing adds texture and subtle variation across the boards, giving the floor a slightly aged appearance from the moment it’s installed. The oiled finish enhances the grain and cooler grey tones without adding a thick surface coating, helping the wood retain a more natural feel.

This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and tonal differences between boards. These natural details work well with the distressed finish, helping the floor feel more authentic and less uniform once laid.

This is a fixed length product, so boards are supplied in set sizes rather than mixed lengths. Each pack may include starter boards to help you stagger the layout for a more natural finish, helping to reduce visible repetition across the floor once installed.

The 6mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to five times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for many years, but it gives the floor a significantly longer lifespan than thinner wear layers. Combined with the 20mm thickness and engineered multi-ply construction, it creates a particularly durable and stable build.

Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. A 3mm underlay is commonly used, while a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended when installing over water-based underfloor heating, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.

Because this is an oiled wood floor, the surface is not fully sealed. Spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent marking, and it’s not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water. The benefit is that worn or scratched areas can be repaired locally by sanding and re-oiling, rather than refinishing the entire floor. The distressed texture also helps soften the appearance of everyday marks over time.

When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.
