Description

The Henley Engineered Grey Distressed Oak Oiled is a 15mm engineered oak floor with a 4mm wear layer, designed for homes that want a cooler, more contemporary wood floor with added texture and character. The grey tones give the floor a softer and more modern feel, while the distressed surface creates a more relaxed, lived-in appearance from the moment it’s installed. The engineered core also helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity, making it suitable for water-based underfloor heating.

Each board is 220mm wide, which is noticeably wider than standard planks. This reduces the number of joins across the floor and helps create a cleaner, more spacious appearance once fitted. The wider format works particularly well in open-plan areas and larger rooms where you want the flooring to feel less busy.

The surface is distressed and oiled. The distressing adds texture and variation across the boards, helping create a softer and slightly aged appearance. The oiled finish enhances the natural grain and cooler grey tones without creating a thick surface coating, helping the floor retain a more natural feel underfoot.

This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and tonal differences between boards. These natural details work particularly well with the distressed finish, adding extra depth and helping the floor avoid looking too uniform once installed.

Boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps create a more natural layout across the floor and reduces repeated patterns once fitted.

The 4mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to three times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for at least 10 to 15 years, but it gives the floor good long-term flexibility. Combined with the 15mm thickness and engineered multi-ply construction, it provides a stable and durable structure for everyday use.

Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. When installing over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.

Because this is an oiled wood floor, the surface is not fully sealed. Spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent marking, and it’s not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water. Grey floors can also show dust and footprints slightly more easily in strong natural light, so regular cleaning will help maintain the finish.

When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.

Why We Love It

We like the Henley Grey Distressed Oak Oiled because the cooler tones give the floor a more modern look, while the distressed texture stops it from feeling too clean or flat. It works particularly well in contemporary homes that still want the warmth and detail of real wood.

Danielle, our Product Expert, recommends the Henley because:

Pet Friendly: Distressed texture helps disguise light scratches and marks

Family Friendly: Mixed grade oak blends in everyday wear and dents

Spill Resistant (with care): Oiled finish offers protection, but spills should be wiped promptly

Modern Look: Grey tones create a softer, contemporary appearance

  • Please note, an oiled finish isn't impermeable and might not be ideal for spill-prone areas
  • Each pack contains boards of mixed lengths, offering a unique and dynamic installation pattern for a beautiful, natural-looking floor.
  • Each board is manufactured with a tongue and groove profile, so each board can simply be glued together.
  • This product has a mixed grade, so it will contain some knots, which is typical for natural wood.
  • This engineered oak is typically installed as a floating floor with a 3mm underlay on the subfloor, providing protection from dampness and serving as a sound barrier and insulator.

  • Please keep in mind that the industry standard includes 10% for wastage and cut-offs, and 5% for visual grading. Make sure to factor this into your calculations when ordering.
  • Engineered wood flooring like this is very resilient to temperature and humidity changes, making it suitable for most rooms, including conservatories. The only exception is the bathroom.
  • Each board has a 4mm layer of wood veneer that enables you to sand down and refinish the surface up to 3 times.
