Description
The Highgate Engineered Smoked Oak Brushed and Lacquered Click Lok is designed to bring richer smoked oak tones and natural texture into the home while still offering the practicality of a lacquered finish. The darker colouring gives the floor added depth and warmth, while the brushed surface helps highlight the natural character and grain detail within the oak.
Each board measures 190mm wide, making this a wide plank flooring option that helps create a more spacious and open appearance throughout the room. The broader boards reduce the number of visible joins across the floor, helping larger spaces feel cleaner and more seamless once installed. The boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps the finished floor look more natural and less repetitive.
The surface is finished with a combination of brushing and lacquering. Brushing lightly textures the oak by removing some of the softer grain, helping the natural markings and grain patterns stand out more clearly. The lacquer then seals the surface, adding protection against everyday wear while making the floor easier to clean and maintain than many oiled alternatives.
This is mixed grade oak, meaning knots, tonal variation, and grain movement are all part of the finished appearance. These natural features work especially well with the smoked colouring, giving the floor more depth and preventing the wider boards from appearing too uniform.
The floor uses an engineered multi-layer construction, designed to provide greater stability than solid wood flooring. This helps minimise movement caused by changes in humidity and temperature, making the floor suitable for conservatories and water-based underfloor heating systems. Bathrooms and areas exposed to standing moisture should still be avoided.
With a 15mm overall thickness and a 4mm solid oak wear layer, the floor offers a reassuringly solid feel underfoot while also providing excellent long-term durability. The wear layer allows the surface to be sanded and refinished up to three times during its lifespan. In most domestic settings, refinishing is unlikely to be necessary for many years, but it provides useful long-term flexibility and longevity.
Installation uses a Click Lok fitting system, allowing boards to click together for a quicker and more straightforward installation process. For the best results, the manufacturer recommends using a tapping block and rubber mallet to ensure all joins are tightly secured. The floor is typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, helping improve sound insulation, heat retention, and protection against minor subfloor moisture. For water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with floor surface temperatures kept below 27°C.
The lacquered finish provides a good balance between maintaining the natural character of the oak and offering easier day-to-day maintenance, making it well suited to busier households.
When ordering, allow approximately 10% extra for cuts and wastage, plus an additional 5% for natural grading variation.
