Laying a new floor might sound like a big job, but honestly, once your subfloor's ready, most of it comes together quicker than people expect.

The bit that really matters is getting your subfloor flat and smooth before you even open the boxes. Even a small dip or bump can end up showing through once your new floor's down, so it's worth taking a bit of extra time here — it makes a real difference to how everything looks and holds up later on.

It's also worth checking the installation guide for your specific flooring rather than going off memory or general tips. Things like the expansion gap, underlay and how long your boards need to settle before fitting can vary from one floor to another.
