What Is Bond Down Vinyl?

Bond down, or glue down LVT, is a durable flooring that is installed to the subfloor with a strong adhesive. As it doesn’t have a built-in installation feature, such as Click Lok, it costs less than floors that do. This, and LVT’s durability, makes glue down vinyl flooring very popular with those looking for value on a low budget.

Does Bond Down Vinyl Scratch Easily?

The top layer of LVT is highly wear and scratch resistant, making it a great choice for busy areas or people with pets. While it is durable, there are precautions you can take with any new flooring to give it a long life. Door mats can catch debris that could be trailed in from outside, and furniture pads are a cheap, invisible, and effective way to prevent scratches.

Is Bond Down Vinyl Waterproof?

LVT doesn’t contain porous materials like wood, so it is extremely water resistant to water. This makes bond down vinyl particularly suitable for places like bathrooms because the adhesive acts as an additional waterproof layer between each board and the subfloor.

How Long Does Bond Down LVT Flooring Need to Acclimatise?

Allowing your bond down flooring to adjust to the conditions of your home is important to prevent your floor from warping. LVT does not contain wood or other fibrous materials, so it is not as susceptible to temperature and humidity changes. Because LVT is more stable it does not need to acclimatise for as long as wood flooring. To be on the safe side we recommend around 3 days before installing your new flooring.

Does Bond Down LVT need underlay?

Our LVT comes with a built-in layer of underlay, so there is no need to buy additional underlay. The only additional thing you’ll need between your bond down flooring and the subfloor is glue.
