Black Engineered Wood Flooring

Black engineered wood flooring is made from real oak that has been stained to produce the beautiful dark shade. It means that your black wood flooring has the beautiful texture, grain and look of real wood. You can get the colour of floor you want without compromising on quality of material.

What is Engineered Wood Flooring?

Engineered wood flooring is a form of real wood flooring that’s engineered to be stronger and more resilient to moisture and heat than solid wood flooring. It’s made from layers of timber that are compressed under high intensity conditions which creates an extremely rigid board. The top layer is the layer of real oak and gives the final look of the floor. The way it’s created means that engineered wood flooring is much less likely to warp, shrink or expand in the face of heat or moisture.

Engineered wood flooring therefore is a fantastic choice for real wood flooring in your home. It provides the look of solid wood flooring with more resilience to the hazards of daily life. Read more about engineered wood flooring.

We also have black solid wood floors available.

Black Oak Flooring

Oak is one of the most popular choices of real wood flooring. Our black oak flooring showcases the beautiful grain, texture and appearance of real oak.

Why Choose Oak Flooring?

If you want a dark floor, there’s also walnut engineered wood flooring to consider (view our walnut range!) as this provides a naturally luxurious and rich dark coloured wood. However, black oak flooring does have some advantages over walnut.

Oak is a harder material

While walnut is a beautiful option for dark engineered wood flooring, it is a softer wood than oak - even in the form of engineered wood. This means that it can be dented, scratched or otherwise damaged more easily than oak flooring.

Oak is more versatile

While walnut’s naturally darker tones are lovely, it means that it’s not as easily tinted or stained as oak. Walnut only comes in it’s natural dark colours and can’t be as successfully stained to achieve black wood flooring.

Colour Change

Walnut changes colour as it ages, according to the variety you choose. American Walnut becomes lighter while Brazilian Walnut develops more red tones. Black oak flooring remains a relatively similar colour throughout its lifetime. As with all engineered wood and solid wood floors, the top layer gradually fades over decades and eventually often needs re-sanding and surfacing to give the floor its original vitality back.

Black oak flooring tends to have a tighter grain than walnut. Whether this is an advantage or not is down to your personal preference!

Using Black Wood Flooring

Black wood flooring usually works better in larger spaces. Darker colours can make a room seem smaller. However, there are exceptions and everyone’s space benefits from different looks, according to your personal taste.

One of the most popular ways to use black wood flooring in homes is to contrast is with the walls or other furnishings. Because black oak can create a fantastic statement look, it often works best when contrasted with white walls or other pale furnishings.

Black wood flooring is a stunning option for homes of all varieties, no matter what kind of style you’re wanting to create. Choose black oak floors from Flooring 365 and order a free sample today.
