Bond down is a traditional installation method that allows you to glue your LVT flooring directly to the subfloor. Using a strong adhesive, it creates a sturdy finish that won’t buckle under the pressures of daily life. However, you should ensure the subfloor is suitable before considering bond down vinyl LVT flooring. For a successful installation, it is crucial to have a smooth and level subfloor, ensuring firm adhesion of the glue.

Bond Down LVT Flooring FAQ's
What Is Bond Down Vinyl?
Bond down, or glue down LVT, is a durable flooring that is installed to the subfloor with a strong adhesive. As it doesn’t have a built-in installation feature, such as Click Lok, it costs less than floors that do. This, and LVT’s durability, makes glue down vinyl flooring very popular with those looking for value on a low budget.
Does Bond Down Vinyl Scratch Easily?
The top layer of LVT is highly wear and scratch resistant, making it a great choice for busy areas or people with pets. While it is durable, there are precautions you can take with any new flooring to give it a long life. Door mats can catch debris that could be trailed in from outside, and furniture pads are a cheap, invisible, and effective way to prevent scratches.
Is Bond Down Vinyl Waterproof?
LVT doesn’t contain porous materials like wood, so it is extremely water resistant to water. This makes bond down vinyl particularly suitable for places like bathrooms because the adhesive acts as an additional waterproof layer between each board and the subfloor.
How Long Does Bond Down LVT Flooring Need to Acclimatise?
Allowing your bond down flooring to adjust to the conditions of your home is important to prevent your floor from warping. LVT does not contain wood or other fibrous materials, so it is not as susceptible to temperature and humidity changes. Because LVT is more stable it does not need to acclimatise for as long as wood flooring. To be on the safe side we recommend around 3 days before installing your new flooring.
Does Bond Down LVT need underlay?
Our LVT comes with a built-in layer of underlay, so there is no need to buy additional underlay. The only additional thing you’ll need between your bond down flooring and the subfloor is glue.
LVT Flooring Finishes
Textured
Our range of bond down LVT flooring features varying amounts of texture. While not as strikingly an imitation of solid wood or stone as our embossed floors, our textured LVT offers a flooring proposition that can’t be beaten on price.
Embossed
An embossed finish is the most advanced replica of a wood or stone floor, with the benefits that LVT offers. This finish features tactile texture across the surface of the flooring that matches the image on the printed layer below.
Stone Embossed
This finish gives a stone-like flooring for a fraction of the cost. Modern embossing and the printed layer of LVT flooring replicate stone just as well as wood.
Wood Effect
Our most popular type of glue down flooring, wood effect, is great for those looking for a budget-friendly option to solid wood flooring. Don’t forget to make use of our unlimited free samples to compare our broad range of colours and grain patterns.
LVT Flooring Thickness
Board Thickness
Generally, thicker boards offer greater durability and slightly enhanced sound reduction capabilities. They are also typically better suited for high-traffic areas because they can withstand more frequent use.
