Solid Wood Parquet Flooring FAQ's
What is Solid Wood Parquet Flooring?
Solid wood parquet is one of our most traditional flooring types, dating right back to the sixteenth century! When looking at parquet floors, it's very easy to see how they've stayed in demand for so long, with more homes choosing to opt for this intricate design once again.
Now that flooring technology has advanced, you can get parquet flooring in a range of different types from solid wood and engineered wood to LVT, making it extremely versatile for any room of the house. However, our solid wood parquet floors are more suitable for less humid areas of the home so we wouldn't advise installing them in your bathroom.
Does Solid Wood Parquet Flooring Scratch Easily?
Solid wood flooring can be susceptible to scratches, as with any solid wood product. However, they will withstand daily use in most domestic environments.
Is Solid Wood Parquet Flooring Waterproof?
No, our hardwood parquet flooring is not waterproof due to its solid wood composition. If you leave any liquids to sit for too long, they could end up damaging your floor. Solid wood is susceptible to warping and discolouration under humid or wet conditions. To keep your floors in top condition, please visit our solid wood flooring maintenance guide.
How Long Does Solid Wood Parquet Flooring Need to Acclimatise?
Like all solid wood floors, your solid wood parquet will need some time to acclimatise. To do this, you must lay your flooring flat on the floor of the room where it will be installed. For solid wood floors, we recommend that you leave them for a minimum of 5-7 days. This will allow enough time for your floor to adjust to the temperature and humidity conditions of your home.
Solid Wood Parquet Flooring Finishes & Treatments
Brushed & Matt Lacquered
Brushed and matt lacquered finishes are the most popular in our solid parquet flooring range. Brushed finishes offer a greater texture and more depth to the surface of the floor. To achieve this look, we brush the floor using steel wire wool to remove the thin upper layers during the manufacturing process. This leaves behind an enhanced grain and texture. The level of depth and texture varies, depending on the flooring type and level of brushing. Once brushed, matt lacquer is applied for additional durability and to create a beautiful matt surface that enhances the wood grains.
Solid Wood Parquet Flooring Thickness
Board Thickness
Generally speaking, board thickness is a case of personal preference, however, thicker boards, whilst usually more expensive do tend to be more hard wearing and provide a slightly improved sound reduction performance, which should be considered in upstairs apartments or bedrooms, for example. As well as this, thicker boards are usually more suited to higher traffic areas, where they can withstand greater use.
Solid Wood Parquet Flooring Installation Methods
Tongue & Groove
Our solid wood parquet floors use the tongue and groove installation method. Whilst not as easy as the Click Lok method, it still allows for simple fitting and installation. This method uses compatible boards that fit together like jigsaw pieces before being held in place with glue. Once adhered to the subfloor, your parquet flooring will remain solid and in place for years, giving a strong, quality feel underfoot.
If you plan on installing the flooring yourself and are unsure, please give us a call and our team will be happy to advise you.
