Lacquered Engineered Wood Flooring

A lacquer describes the final finish that’s applied to each engineered wood flooring board. There are many finishing options available with engineered wood and solid wood flooring, including oiled, lacquered and unfinished. While unfinished flooring has the finish applied after fitting, when you buy finished flooring, such as our brushed and lacquered floors, the finish has already been applied to the individual boards.

This makes it easy to fit and enjoy a brand new floor.

A lacquer is one of the most durable flooring finishes and is most commonly used on areas with heavy foot traffic -- such as commercial spaces, dance halls and school halls. It can also be used in domestic environments.

Matt Lacquer

A matt lacquer is an increasingly popular style choice. A standard lacquer offers high levels of protection, but reflects the light and therefore looks very shiny. People often choose a matt lacquer. This still has some level of shine, but much less so than a standard lacquer, and still provides protects your wood flooring.

Oil vs Lacquer

If you’re looking for an alternative finish to a brushed and matt lacquer, then oil is the other popular choice. It depends on your requirements as to which you would find the most beneficial.

A lacquer finish sits on top of your engineered wood floor, while an oil finish seeps into the wood. This means than a lacquer creates a thicker layer of protection that’s longer lasting than oiled. However, while an oil finish needs retouching more often than a lacquer, when a lacquer floor does need refinishing, it requires more work to complete.

An oil finish tends to be the most popular choice for domestic environments and areas with light to medium foot traffic. It is highly durable, doesn’t require large amounts of work, and better showcases the natural textures in the wood. A lacquer finish, on the other hand, is perfect for commercial spaces and areas with heavy foot traffic.

If you want the protection that a lacquer finish offers, but still want to highlight the natural patterns in your real wood floor, then a brushed and matt lacquer is a fantastic choice.

Brushed Wood Flooring

A brushed floor is created before the final finish is applied. The wooden floor board is treated with a brush that scrapes any new growth back from the surface, revealing the beautiful natural texture of the oak or walnut wood beneath. It helps to highlight the beauty of a real wood floor.

Choosing a brushed finish is a great way to celebrate the natural material of your floor.

Brushed and Matt Lacquer

Flooring with a brushed and matt lacquer finish is a great choice for those that want to enjoy the beauty of real wood flooring, while also protecting an area that sees a lot of foot traffic. Whether you’re flooring your home, business, school or community hall, then a brushed and matt lacquer is a great choice.
