Parquet Flooring is quite possibly the best flooring option despite the somewhat more complicated manufacturing and installation process. Parquet flooring consists of thin pieces of wood and the overall appearance is very sophisticated and creative.
Oak parquet flooring is one of the most popular types of parquet flooring, thanks to its natural beauty and strength. Oak is a hard and dense wood that is resistant to scratches, dents, and moisture. It is also available in a variety of shades, so you can find the perfect oak parquet flooring to match your home's décor. However, if oak isn't your style, you can also find other species of parquet flooring such as walnut. Apart from the wood species used in making your parquet flooring, you should also decide whether you want solid or engineered parquet flooring. Solid consists of solid pieces of timber whereas engineered has layers of wood with the hardwood veneer at the top; however, whichever choice you make there is no difference in the final look of the fitted parquet flooring. It'll still look spectacular either way!
Advances in flooring technology allow the option for convincing replicas with LVT parquet flooring or laminate parquet flooring too.
Parquet flooring originally became popular in France during the 16th century. Since then, it has remained a popular and opulent flooring option, with a timeless appearance that still leaves a striking impression to this day.
Traditionally, parquet flooring would simply be made from solid wood. However, modern technology has allowed this flooring to evolve into what it is today, with parquet flooring options available as laminate, LVT, or engineered wood.
Parquet flooring is one of the more expensive choices in terms of flooring, offering a luxurious and sophisticated appearance. However, that’s not to say you can’t find budget-friendly parquet floors. Our parquet wood flooring clearance includes some of our best-sellers and with the lowest prices online, you won’t find them any cheaper elsewhere. We also have some cost-effective parquet flooring options such as laminate parquet flooring and LVT parquet flooring. Both offer budget-friendly alternatives to the real deal, with a range of other great benefits too. For example, our LVT flooring is all 100% waterproof so you could have parquet flooring in your bathroom should you wish to.
Parquet flooring can cost anywhere from £20-£100 per m² on average in the UK. However, the price you pay will depend on multiple factors such as the material, finish, thickness, and more. For example, laminate parquet flooring will always be much cheaper than oak parquet flooring. Therefore, you can expect to pay around £20-£35 per m² for laminate parquet. Whereas you can expect to pay anywhere between £40-£80 for solid oak parquet flooring. Here at Flooring365, we pride ourselves on having the lowest prices online, so whatever style takes your liking, we’re sure you won’t be disappointed by the deals on offer.
Ultimately, this question can only be answered by you since it’s your home. However, what we can tell you is that homes with high-quality wood flooring tend to be estimated around 2.5% higher than homes that do not. Therefore, if you’re looking to make a worthwhile investment, you’ll want to browse our engineered parquet or solid parquet flooring options. Oak parquet flooring tends to make a great choice since it is a popular wood species that is well-liked and appreciated by many.
Again, this question is difficult to answer on your behalf. Our oak parquet flooring options are the most popular. However, if you’re looking for something a little more unique, you may want to take a look at walnut rather than oak, or chevron instead of herringbone. At Flooring365 we have a wide range of different parquet flooring options including different materials, wood species, colours, and finishes. So, whatever your style is and whatever your home requires, we’re sure we can find you the right flooring, within budget. Just give us a call if you are unsure. We’d be more than happy to speak to you, find you some options, and send out some free samples for you to compare for yourself.
If you are looking to install parquet flooring in your kitchen, it is advisable that you choose either a lacquered parquet floor or opt for something waterproof such as LVT.
Yes, parquet flooring is suitable for pets, including dogs. However, due to the versatility of parquet floors, some options will be more suitable than others. To get an idea of what to look for in your flooring, please visit our pet friendly flooring blog.
If you are considering replacing your current floor with something more eye-catching and intriguing, then parquet flooring is the perfect choice.
Parquet blocks can be laid in a variety of patterns, with some being more intricate than others. Parquet blocks are very versatile and often compatible with underfloor heating. The flooring is certainly very stable because it is made of three layers of wood at a 90-degree angle to each other to reduce movement in the wood. The top layer is made of carefully selected wood and is named the wear layer and can be sanded if required. Underneath the wear layer lays an advanced body that absorbs the impact and guarantees the high stability of the flooring.
Below the advanced body is a sheet of ecologically certified wood that gives each board the perfect balance. Since the bottom layers of wood are invisible, they can be made of cheaper types of wood. This often means that our engineered wood parquet is cheaper than standard solid wood flooring. So, if you’re looking for durable and budget-friendly oak parquet flooring, you’ll want to browse our engineered parquet flooring range.
Engineered wood flooring is a composite wood flooring, made up of structural sublayers (usually plywood) and a real wood top layer, offering a finish identical to solid wood at a fraction of the cost. Our engineered wood flooring can also be re-sanded throughout its lifetime to replenish the overall finish when needed.
Our solid wood flooring is made from a single species of wood, offering an authentic real wood finish. Solid wood flooring requires fixing to a subfloor using flooring adhesive.
LVT vinyl flooring is an ideal choice for kitchens and bathrooms, as it's water-resistant and easy to fit. However, expert finishes mean LVT is now becoming popular in any room of the house, offering easy fitting, a crisp finish, and a wide range of styles.
Laminate parquet, such as our Valore Laminate Range is an ideal choice for those looking for parquet flooring on a budget. With a decorative photo top layer and hard-wearing protection, our laminate parquet offers a striking finish that's hard-wearing and easy to maintain.
Unfinished flooring is just that, essentially, wood has been cut and shaped into planks with no other finishing process such as oiling or lacquer.
Whilst unfinished flooring does require treatment or protection after fitting and before use, it does offer the benefit of a wider range of styles available, thanks to the availability of oils, waxes, or stains.
A brushed finish is perfect if you want a slight texture to your flooring. Brushed finishes help enhance the natural character of the floor by gently brushing it with a steel comb. This removes the soft grains of the wood and leaves behind only the hard grains. You can then treat the flooring with oil or lacquer.
The depth of texture varies, depending upon the level of brushing and wood type.
Lacquer is a varnish that dries to produce a hard, durable finish and acts as an additional wear layer. This makes it a popular choice for many, but particularly ideal for areas with higher foot traffic. Lacquer is available in gloss, matt, or satin matt finishes and can be clear or coloured.
Oil seeps into the wood and maintains the surface texture of wood flooring while providing some resistance to damage. However, it does not protect the flooring in the same way that lacquer does because it does not sit on the surface. Oiled flooring will require more maintenance and care over spillages because of this.
If you have decided on an engineered wood parquet or a solid wood parquet floor, then you’ll want to consider which wood species you prefer. While there are some minor differences in terms of functionality, ultimately the choice comes down to your aesthetics and preferences.
Oak is the most popular choice when it comes to wood flooring, and our oak parquet flooring is no exception. Whether you prefer red or white oak, oak parquet flooring offers plenty of choice with a wide range of products available in various finishes. In addition, oak floors have a tighter grain variation, resulting in less difference in grains and texture between each board. If you prefer a more consistent appearance from board to board, you should consider looking at our prime-grade oak floors.
Walnut is the less popular option of the two and this is mostly because it's a rarer product that is harder to source and therefore more expensive to buy. Although, for those seeking a luxurious touch to their flooring design, our walnut parquet flooring is ideal. With its rich and elegant appearance, it's perfect for grand entrances and large living rooms. Walnut parquet flooring features vibrant colours and wider grains compared to oak, giving it a unique and striking character. However, walnut floors may have more variation from plank to plank, so if you prefer a more uniform look, then they may not be the best option for you.
Herringbone is a slightly easier parquet flooring style to fit, usually by connecting the short end of one board to the long end of another. This interlocking pattern gives a 'zig zag' finish, which adds interest to any room, elevating your flooring.
Chevron parquet, whilst more difficult to fit, perhaps offers the most interesting finish of all flooring types. To create a Chevron pattern, the planks must be laid at a 45-degree angle. This will form a V-shaped pattern and result in a visually striking and timeless look.
If you have opted for an engineered wood floor, you may want to consider choosing thicker boards. Thicker boards usually have a thicker veneer, which is important if you plan on refinishing your flooring in the future. This is important with engineered wood flooring as only the veneer (aka the wear layer) can be sanded down. Although there is no wear layer for solid wood flooring, the same rule applies. The more thickness you have, the more times you can refinish your flooring. You can see more information on this on our wear tab.
Regardless of which floor type you choose, thicker boards will be more hard-wearing and provide slightly improved sound reduction performance. Therefore, you may want to consider thicker boards in upstairs apartments or bedrooms, for example. As well as this, thicker boards are usually more suited to higher traffic areas, where they can withstand greater use. However, they are often more expensive to show for this, so ultimately it comes down to budget and personal preference.
If you're using a water-based underfloor heating system, it's important that your flooring isn't too thick to prevent the transfer of heat into the room. We recommend using flooring with a maximum board thickness of 15MM with 4/4.5MM Underfloor Heating Suitable Underlay.
The wear layer refers to the top, aesthetic surface layer of real wood, which gives the engineered flooring its look. Thicker wear layers, whilst usually more expensive, offer greater durability and the option to sand more frequently, meaning flooring can be refreshed more times before replacing.
Most engineered wood floors, regardless of the thickness of the wear layer, will provide years of use, maintaining their impressive appearance.
In most cases, sanding the top layer of engineered wood flooring will remove up to 1MM of surface, with a minimum of 1MM needed leftover for protection. As a rough guide, here’s the number of times a floor can be sanded, based on the initial wear layer thickness:
(Please note: Sanding times is a guide only, the number of times a floor can be sanded will vary on an individual basis.)
Solid wood parquet flooring is fixed to the floor using a special bond, such as TREMCO Flooring Adhesive. This installation method provides an ultra-secure, fixed finish that will stay in place for the lifetime of your floor. We recommend careful preparation of your subfloor for the best results.
Click Lok flooring has a profiled edge which creates a glue-free, interlocking fitting system. The quick and easy system allows for flooring to be laid more easily and relatively hassle-free.
Click Lok systems are predominantly used in laminate and engineered wood flooring, allowing easy installation even for DIY novices. Simply, push, drop, click, and lock the boards into place for a sturdy floor installation.
If you’re considering Click Lok, it’s important to think about the underlying surface on which your flooring will be laid. Uneven surfaces make Click Lok much more difficult to fit, which often means the need for levelling underlay.
A traditional method of fitting flooring, Tongue & Groove is a tried and tested installation type that involves tessellating profiled edges together using glue, such as PVA.
Whilst it can be slower to fit than Click Lok, some customers prefer the peace of mind a glued, tongue and groove flooring provides.
