Description
The Hillingdon Elite Engineered Golden Oak Handscraped is a 20mm engineered oak floor with a substantial 6mm wear layer, designed for homes that want a more traditional wood floor with added texture and character. The warm golden tones give the floor a softer, more inviting feel, while the engineered core helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity. It’s also suitable for water-based underfloor heating, making it a practical option for larger spaces and open-plan rooms.
Each board is 180mm wide, creating a balanced wide plank layout that helps reduce visible joins across the floor. This gives the room a cleaner, more open appearance without feeling overly modern.
The surface is handscraped, which gives the boards a more aged and traditional look. Unlike a completely smooth finish, the surface has gentle texture and variation that helps the floor feel more like reclaimed or time-worn timber. This also helps soften the appearance of small marks and everyday wear over time.
This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and colour differences between boards. These natural details work particularly well with the handscraped finish, adding extra depth and character once the floor is installed.
This is a fixed length product, so boards are supplied in set sizes rather than mixed lengths. Each pack may include starter boards to help you stagger the layout for a more natural finish, helping to reduce visible repetition across the floor.
The 6mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to five times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for many years, but it gives the floor a considerably longer lifespan than thinner wear layers. Combined with the 20mm thickness and engineered multi-ply construction, it creates a particularly durable and stable build.
Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. A 3mm underlay is commonly used, while a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended when installing over water-based underfloor heating, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.
Because of the textured handscraped surface, cleaning can take slightly longer than with a completely smooth floor, particularly in deeper grain areas. However, many people prefer the added character and more forgiving appearance it gives over time. The floor is not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water.
When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.
