Description
The Twickenham Engineered Natural Distressed Oak Brushed and Oiled is a 14mm engineered oak floor with a 3mm wear layer, designed for homes that want a more relaxed, lived-in wood look from day one. The distressed surface adds extra texture and variation, while the engineered core helps reduce movement caused by changes in temperature and humidity. It’s also suitable for water-based underfloor heating, making it a practical option across a range of spaces.
Each board is 190mm wide, which helps reduce the number of joins across the floor and creates a more open, less segmented layout. The wider planks work particularly well in medium and larger rooms where you want the flooring to feel more continuous.
The surface is distressed, brushed and oiled. The distressing gives the floor a more aged appearance, with extra texture and subtle markings that help soften the look of everyday wear over time. Brushing lifts the grain slightly, giving the floor a more natural feel underfoot, while the oiled finish enhances the warmth and variation within the oak.
This is mixed grade oak, so you’ll see knots, grain variation, and colour differences between boards. These natural features work well with the distressed finish, giving the floor a more relaxed and less uniform appearance once installed.
Boards are supplied in mixed lengths, which helps create a more natural layout across the floor and avoids a repeated pattern once fitted.
The 3mm solid oak wear layer allows the floor to be sanded and refinished up to two times. In most homes, this won’t be needed for at least 10 to 15 years. The 14mm thickness, combined with the engineered construction, provides a stable and durable structure for everyday use.
Installation uses a tongue and groove system, with boards designed to be glued together. It’s typically installed as a floating floor over a 3mm underlay, which helps improve insulation and reduce noise. When installing over water-based underfloor heating, a 4mm compressed rubber underlay is recommended, with a maximum surface temperature of 27°C.
Because this is an oiled wood floor, the surface is not fully sealed. Spills should be wiped up promptly to prevent marking, and it’s not suitable for bathrooms or areas with standing water. The benefit is that worn or scratched areas can be repaired locally by sanding and re-oiling, rather than refinishing the entire floor.
When ordering, allow around 10% extra for wastage and cuts, plus an additional 5% to account for natural variation in grading.

- Engineered wood flooring like this is very resilient to temperature and humidity changes, making it suitable for most rooms, including conservatories. The only exception is the bathroom.
- Due to the stability of our engineered flooring products laying the flooring in rooms heated with water based underfloor heating is not a problem. Our 4mm Compressed Rubber Underlay is suitable for water based underfloor heating.
- Each board is manufactured with a tongue and groove profile, so each board can simply be glued together.
- This engineered oak is typically installed as a floating floor with a 3mm underlay on the subfloor, providing protection from dampness and serving as a sound barrier and insulator.
- This product has a mixed grade, so it will contain some knots, which is typical for natural wood.
- Please note, an oiled finish isn't impermeable and might not be ideal for spill-prone areas
